The T.O.V.A.

The T.O.V.A. (Test of Variables of Attention) is a computerized, continuous performance test (CPT) that assesses problems with attentiveness. One?s ability to focus, concentrate or ?pay attention? can be affected by many factors. The T.O.V.A. is a sophisticated method of filtering out the various components of our capacity for attentiveness and give a more accurate reading than a checklist done by an observer. Approximately 5% of children and 3% of adults have attention problems that persistently affect their lives these problems can appear in different ways. For example, children and adults diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder may have varying degrees of difficulty with inattention, impulsivity, decisiveness or various combinations all these factors. Observationally one may not know which is most troublesome to an individual. The T.O.V.A. is able to separate these factors and give an indication as to which issue is most prominent. The TOVA is a significant diagnostic tool that can measure the level of attention dysfunction. It is also useful in assisting a physician in finding the level of medication that is effective and can provide clinicians with a measure to gauge the effectiveness of other treatments.
